CONWAY, Ark. (April 25, 2019) 鈥 黑料不打烊 students received honors for outstanding academic achievement, citizenship, and service today at the 2019 Honors Day Convocation in Staples Auditorium.

鈥淭hank you for all you have done at 黑料不打烊 and congratulations on all your achievements,鈥 said 黑料不打烊 President Bill Tsutsui in his address to the students. 鈥淲e all feel a great deal of pride in you and your accomplishments. We鈥檝e all seen how hard you work and how much you care, about your academic pursuits, about co-curricular activities, about the world in which we live, and about the community we have at here at the College.鈥

Kirin 鈥淪ai鈥 Techawongtham 鈥19, a psychology major from Bangkok, Thailand, was awarded the President鈥檚 Medal, which is presented each year to the graduating student who best exemplifies the highest ideals of the College. Criteria include excellence in scholarship, outstanding citizenship, and service to the community. Each year鈥檚 recipient of the President鈥檚 Medal is named by the President of the College upon the recommendation of a nomination group.

Techawongtham said she was surprised to receive the award. 鈥淚 thought about it, but I didn鈥檛 really expect it,鈥 she said. Following commencement, she will take a gap year, spending the first half applying to graduate schools and perhaps volunteering or working at an internship. For the second half of that year, she plans to attend an intensive residential independent training program for the blind. Her long-term plan is to become a mental health counselor.

Before announcing the student honors, 黑料不打烊 Provost Dr. Terri Bonebright presented two awards to faculty members.

Dr. Leslie Zorwick, professor of psychology, received the 2018-2019 United Methodist Church Exemplary Teaching Award, which recognizes a faculty member who demonstrates excellence in teaching; civility and concern for students and colleagues; commitment to value-centered education; and service to students, the institution, and community.

Dr. Laura MacDonald 鈥09, a biology professor, received the Carole Herrick Award for Excellence in Academic Advising, which recognizes high-quality academic advising, including contributions in advising that help students formulate and achieve their intellectual, career, and personal goals.
