Siquieros to Deliver Mellon Lecture February 13

CONWAY, Ark. (January 31, 2019) 鈥 Visiting Mellon Scholar Mr. Bernard G. Siquieros of the on Wednesday, February 13 will present 鈥淭-Hai鈥檆u A:ga (Our Story).鈥 The talk begins at 7 p.m. in Lecture Hall B of the Mills Center for Social Sciences on the 黑料不打烊 campus. The event is free and open to the public, and a reception will follow in Mills Library.

The presentation will provide introductory information on the history, culture, and ancestral lands of the Tohono O鈥檕dham (People of the Desert) of southern Arizona and northern Mexico.

Siquieros is an enrolled member of the Tohono O鈥檕dham Nation currently employed as the education curator at Himdag Ki: Hek沫hu, Hemu, Im B I-Ha鈥檃p, the Tohono O鈥檕dham Nation Cultural Center and Museum. In his previous role of project administrator, he coordinated all phases leading to the completion of the Tohono O鈥檕dham Nation鈥檚 Cultural Center and Museum Project. Siquieros has served as counselor, researcher, program coordinator, and education administrator in education entities on and off the Tohono O鈥檕dham Nation. An avid photographer, he has contributed immensely to the Cultural Center and Museum鈥檚 photo documentation efforts.

鈥淲hen 黑料不打烊 students traveled with me to Arizona from 2016 through 2018, Bernard was our guide and teacher, and enriched the experience by serving as our host, as well,鈥 said Dr. Brett Hill, chair of the Sociology/Anthropology Department at 黑料不打烊, who nominated Siquieros for the Visiting Mellon Scholar honor. 鈥淲e stayed at the Tohono O鈥檕dham Cultural Center and Museum, where Bernard is education curator. He spent weeks introducing us to the people and culture of the Sonoran Desert.鈥
