When & Where will
this Event Occur:Ìý Thursday,
October 14th-Saturday, October 15th. The trip will go to
Birmingham, Selma, and Montgomery, Alabama and Atlanta, GA.
Ìý
Master Calendar
Confirmation:Ìý not needed
Ìý
Event Details: MDC
and the Dean of Students are collaborating on an exciting opportunity for
ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Students.Ìý We are completing plans to take 13 ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Students on
a Civil Rights experience over fall-break weekend.Ìý Students would visit
historic civil rights sites in Birmingham (AL), Selma (AL), Montgomery (AL) and
Atlanta (GA).Ìý The trip would leave campus early on Thursday, October 14th and
would return late on Saturday, October 15th.
Ìý
Instead of offering this trip as a first come-first serve
opportunity, we are offering one seat on the trip to 13 different
organizations.Ìý The idea is to find a way to create a representative group
and to encourage discussion between various groups.Ìý We are asking Student
Senate to fund this proposal because the groups would most likely approach
Senate for funding each of the delegates.Ìý ÌýÌý
Ìý
We will also have a student videographer participate in the
trip who will interview students prior to departure and after we return.
ÌýThe plan is to create a short video about the experience and share that
video with the campus during a panel discussion.Ìý We are likely to
schedule this discussion as part of a project Pedicles forum or during MLK
week.
Ìý
The entire cost of the trip should be $1800 which will cover
transportation, lodging, admission to museums and 3 meals for all
participants.Ìý
